I am not the most organized person in the world – not by a long shot. Which is strange because I love organizational items like totes and baskets – one would think I was super on top of all things organizing. But I’m not!
So, when The Organizational Maven showed up at my house to help me I was excited beyond words! We began the awful task of going through my garage. As you can see below – it was a disaster. Now, I want to make it clear that I did TRY to clean this garage – I really did. But after speaking with Allison, I found out that I was going about cleaning all wrong.
Organizing the RIGHT way
As we began to tackle the garage Allison told me how most people who clean their garages take everything out. Then, they begin to try to organize but often get so tired – because it takes them an entire weekend – that they give up and just put everything back in. And that is EXACTLY what my husband and I had done!
However, despite how awful my garage was, the entire clean up took less than 3 hours with Allison!
What I loved the most about the process is that she truly listened to everything I said about the items I had and took that into consideration when finding homes for everything. And because this is her profession she had tips and tricks that I would have never thought of. Like using S-hooks to hang all of my grocery bags.
Not only that, but her service includes the hauling away of trash, donations, e-waste, AND shredding. It’s so easy to say that you’re going to take things to the donation center, but in the end, those items end up living in our garages or cars for weeks/months. Allison just takes them to where they need to go! So at the end of your time, EVERYTHING is done.
How organizing relieved stress in my life
It’s a pretty known idea that the more organized you are the less stressed you are and I find that to be totally true. With the help of Allison, my garage is now completely organized. There is a home for all of my decorations and all of my husband’s sports equipment. I’m not incapable of opening cabinets – it’s glorious!
The only thing I wish I could have done is to have Allison organize the rest of my house! If my garage can now look like it does below, I can only imagine what she could do with the rest of my life!
