Ohmygawd you girls, I don’t know about you, but I can’t WAIT for retirement! Not mine of course because as a SAHM and a mother, in general, you never really retire, but I mean retirement from working a “real” job, which is what my husband does and what I’ll probably end up getting once my children are in school full-time.
There are SO many things I want to do but no longer have time or energy or money to do.
First off, I want to travel everywhere on my bucket list: Machu Picchu, Africa, Nepal, Montana, and that sushi restaurant in a Tokyo subway station to name a few. Between trips, I plan to get back into wine tasting, grow my own garden, really get serious about working out, organize our 10,000+ family photos and videos, do all the Pinterest crafts I’ve been meaning to try, read those helpful parenting books I keep hearing about, and finish all the pages in my adult coloring book….
You know, everything I used to do before parenthood with my expendable income, or wanted to do but couldn’t afford, or somehow thought I’d still have time for as a parent.
If you can believe it, I actually thought I’d be able to do hobbies while my son was napping during the day hahahaha!
While the average retirement age is currently 62, my 74-year old father is still working and realistically speaking I’ll probably be at least 80 when I finally get to retire. But I’m thinking, if I start saving now, by 2047 I should be able to get myself that diamond necklace JLaw was wearing at the Golden Globes!
Huh, what’s that you say? College tuition is expected to be at least $400,000 by the time my children are 18? Oh. Okay. Well, then I guess there goes the necklace, and the travel, and probably the wine tasting and…you know what, just forget what I said about retirement entirely.
