The Hidden Power Of The Mom Bun

0

My mom bun. Yes, it’s messy. Yes, it’s not perfect. Yes, I have kids.

The mom bun represents some great and not so great things about motherhood. I grew up dancing ballet, tap, jazz, and every type of dance. In the dance world, a bun had to be perfect and a certain way; Hair slicked back and precisely pinned to form the most perfect circle.

These days my mom bun takes about a minute to put up.

It’s a messy ball and placed high on my head to raise my cheekbones, and I am ready to face the day.

I am ready to face the day for myself, my kids, and those around me. Sounds like a lot, but to a mom, that’s just another day. We can release some of those responsibilities when we ask for help, but most days it’s just us and that bun.

What Does The Mom Bun Mean?

For the other people in this world that are not moms, here’s a short explanation: When a mom puts her hair up it could be for a multitude of reasons that day.

Maybe it was because her baby kept her up all night since he was teething.

Maybe it was because her son woke up from night terrors from who knows what.

Maybe it was because she wanted to stay up late to watch that series she can’t watch with the children.

These reasons and many more are significant to the power of moms.

Yes, we do all that plus more in our waking hours, like the dishes, laundry, cooking, etc. You don’t have to know the reason why, just know that she is getting things done.

It’s a declaration that you are capable of what comes your way and can still raise your beautiful child(ren) to be kind and compassionate.

Most importantly, those kids know that mama means business when that mom bun is on. My kids draw pictures of me with that bun on and it makes my heart happy. Whether I am getting a workout in, making meals, or cleaning around the house, if that bun is in, mama is there to get stuff done. You are showing your kids how to accomplish things and that they can do it too, one day. They are watching you with love.

Moms Have Superpowers

So, next time when you get ready and put your mom bun on, be confident that other moms get you. You have the superpower to get things done, while wearing that confident bun. If you see another mom, smile and nod, because you know what kind of day they are having. You are there or have been there.

We are in this special “mom bun” tribe that no one gets until they experience it.

Lift yourself and others and never apologize for that beautiful bun. You showed up to conquer the day and keep those kiddos happy.

You are in a beautiful generation of mom bun wearing women. Mamas, wear that mom bun high and proudly, you have the power, and no one can take that away from you!

Love,

Cheryll
