A Better Morning Routine Just For Moms

You know that morning routine saying, “the early bird catches the worm.” But, what if you don’t want the worm because you were attacked by worms as a child and now stick to bugs that are all around.

Now, let’s translate that into “mom” terms: what if we slept late because of watching Netflix because our shows aren’t appropriate for kids and then our toddler wakes up at 3am for an unknown reason. Then, does the “early bird (want) to catch the worm?”

For years, I have been attempting a morning routine, the ones they proclaim in all the books.

I’ve tried and failed every time, and this time I am not putting so much pressure on myself. I am not going to look at it as a pass or fail situation. I am going to try and try and keep on trying, until it’s doing. There are a myriad of excuses that I can throw out there, but none of them will help me move forward in creating a morning routine that works for me.

Sleep feels so good

As a mom of three, I’ve been through three different seasons of the “mombie” phase where nothing else matters but sleep. Then, miraculously, these tiny humans figure out that sleep at night is good. Then mama remembers sleep too and never wants to come out of that cozy bed.

Also comes the random nights where the kids wake up for whatever reason and break your cycle of sleep. Then you wake up and don’t want to get out of bed because of the reasons you tell yourself, but mostly it’s because your sleep was interrupted by kids.

When you want to work on you

I came to a realization that I finally get the saying, “the early bird catches the worm.” That worm to a mom represents alone, quiet time where you don’t have to be anything to anyone. You can be free to think and do what you want. Remember that time, before kids and before your husband.

Yes, I love them dearly, but I love me too.

I want to create a time for me and that has become the morning time. Because by the end of each day, I am exhausted and ready for sleep. That is why I am creating a morning time where I can be me, take care of me, and be ready for the day.

Create your morning routine

The only part that will be routine is my 5AM alarm that will wake me up. I am going to look at the morning time where I can do whatever I want for me and not worry about all the things to do for everyone else. Things that happen during “me” time could be:

  • Getting a workout
  • Journaling
  • Blogging
  • Getting organized with a planner
  • Have some tea or coffee
  • Read a Book
  • Listen to a podcast
  • Work on your business
  • Absolutely nothing

A morning routine for a mom is time to actually think about not being the best mom, best wife, best daughter, and all our other roles. It is time to think about you and the person inside of you that wants to do all the things but can’t seem to get time to do it.

Maybe give it a try because you know when those kids wake up, it’s “game over.”

Love,

Cheryll
