Like everyone else witnessing the catastrophic devastation in LA, we are grieving for and with our neighbors. Some of our own OCMC community have been directly impacted by the wildfires, and everyone knows someone who has lost a home.
As of this article here is what we know:
- The fires have burned some 40,000 acres
- Tens of thousands of people have been displaced and at least 27 people have tragically died
- It appears that the insured losses may be more than $20 billion
- According to estimates published by JPMorgan, total economic losses could reach $50 billion
- Altadena is historically home to multi generational Black families and we recommend reading this article from the Associated Press for more perspective.
