How Football Makes Our Family Stronger

0

football has made our family stronger oc mom collectiveOut of all the things that we choose to do as a family, I honestly didn’t expect football to be one of our main bonding experiences. But it is. 100%. The time together, the cheering, the camaraderie, the life lessons. It has made our family even stronger!

I didn’t grow up a big football fan. We would have the games on in the background of life on the weekends, my dad occasionally yelling at the television (lol), but it wasn’t until I was an adult that football became a bigger part of my life. Now I have experienced pro games, feeling like a taxi getting people to practice some days, weekend games cheering on kids, and even fun fantasy league draft events. Even on the craziest of busy days I wouldn’t trade it, because football has impacted our family in the best ways.

Time Together

Being a football family means more time together. Practices, games, fantasy leagues, or watching your favorite teams… more time around football means more time around family members.

Camaraderie

Quick question first: does your family all cheer for the same team? Or do you have multiple teams that you cheer for? Our family is that latter and it brings a little spice into our football experience some days! We cheer together. We throw in a little friendly banter with our older kids. With multiple favorite teams, we end up having more opportunities to watch football together as well!

Life Lessons

I feel like I could just keep listing lessons that we have learned as a football family. Our kids who play have learned how to be resilient, how to be a good team member, and how to interact respectfully with other adults. Our kids who are big fans but don’t personally play have learned how to be good sports and how to have healthy boundaries so that a loss won’t impact their entire day. We have all learned how much fun it can be to be a part of a community that is all rallying together and cheering on the same team. Having personal experience with how football can even bring strangers together when cheering on their team is so powerful.

Is your family a football family? Has your family grown strong because of football, too? I would love to hear your experience in the comments.
