wifi tips

Streaming shows. School projects. Working from home. Alexa playing your favorite music. Wifi is connected to so many of the things that we do at home. And honestly? Nothing puts a damper on the day than wifi that is slow or isn’t working. We partnered with Cox to put this list together for tips for better wifi!

Have your modem in a central location.

This first tip might seem like a no-brainer, but honestly it helps so much. Having your modem in a central location instead of tucked away in a corner room somewhere can make a big difference.

Use a password.

Password protecting your wifi is smart for a number of reasons but the main one is that strangers won’t be using your bandwidth. The more people connected to your wifi, the slower it’ll be. Passwords = smart.

Place your modem in a high spot.

I had zero clue about this tip! Wifi signals travel outward and downward so if it’s on the floor it may struggle to reach your devices. Placing your modem on a high shelf or piece of furniture is a better solution.

Steer clear of obstructions.

Doors, large pieces of furniture, and even mirrors are all things to be mindful of when placing your modem in your house. You want to steer clear of things that can interfere with your wifi signals.

Bluetooth boundaries.

Try to keep devices that use bluetooth away from your modem. They operate on the same frequency, so it can interfere with your signal.

Not all of this will work perfectly all of the time. But these simple tips can make a big difference when it comes to better wifi! No one likes it when your wifi isn’t working… especially if that is a toddler trying to watch their favorite show 😉

One more thing we wanted to make sure and highlight is that Cox works with the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) to deliver financial relief to our customers. If you are a Cox customer and qualify for the program, you can receive a discount on your monthly bill. Check out more details on this awesome program here.
