We love May in Orange County.  The flowers are blooming, which can even be seen from SPACE, and summer is right around the corner.  And of course, Mother’s Day is in MAY!  Which is near and dear to all of us!

So here’s what happening in May!

May 2nd – 7th | An American in Paris SCFTA 

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is the new Tony Award®-winning musical about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war.

Acclaimed director/choreographer and 2015 Tony Award®-winner Christopher Wheeldon brings the magic and romance of Paris into perfect harmony with unforgettable songs from George and Ira Gershwin in the show that earned more awards than any other musical in the 2014/15 season.

May 5th-26th | Shark Lagoon Aquarium of the Pacific

The public is invited to get up close with the ocean’s ultimate predators at the Aquarium of the Pacific for FREE during Shark Lagoon Nights. Guests will have the opportunity to touch bamboo sharks and see large sharks such as sand tigers as well as rays in the Aquarium’s Shark Lagoon.

Coffee, hot cocoa, beer, wine, desserts, and snacks are available for purchase.

Please note that while it is almost every Friday, some Fridays are excluded. Please check the dates for availability.

May 6th | Bloom 10am-12pm 

Please join Anaheim Moms Blog for a morning of pampering for any new and expecting mom!  Bring your sister, aunt, mom, cousin, grandma or friend with you!  Sure to be an amazing morning!

May 7th | Canyon Explorers Springtime Palette 

The hills are alive with colorful orange Poppies, purple Lupines and red Indian Paintbrush flowers. After the winter storms, spring has finally sprung into a variety of color! Let’s take a stroll through the canyon to capture the springtime flare. Must REGISTER!

May 8th | Baby Steps Pretend City

Join us for this month’s baby steps as we focus on Mother’s Day and Mommy & Me activities! We will celebrate the bond between mother and child through activities and art! Let your child learn and develop themselves while socializing with other little ones.

May 8th | Wee Wonder Walks

Come hear the mighty adventures of ten little caterpillars during spring time. They will wiggle up color flowers, sail along a garden pool, and scale up an apple tree. Discover what each caterpillar is doing and what they will eventually become! After our tale, we will make our own little caterpillar creation and then go for a walk to search for caterpillars in the canyons. MUST REGISTER!

May 11th  | Tinkerbell half marathon – Disneyland Resort

Put on your imaginary wings, and join the Disney fairies and Peter Pan and the Lost Boys for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend.

May 12th | Jedi Training Academy Pretend City

Grab your lightsabers and Jedi robes, the galaxy needs your help! Join us for a crash course in Jedi training and help Pretend City protect our citizens!

May 12th | Mother’s Day Brunch Aquarium of the Pacific

Join us for a memorable Mother’s Day brunch to celebrate the special women in your life. You’ll explore the wonders of the Pacific Ocean as you visit over 11,000 animals. All day Aquarium admission is included.

May 12th  | Mother’s Day Luncheon Tanaka Farms

A Luncheon to celebrate the special mother in your life!

May 13th | Rocket Launch Discovery Cube

Blast off at Discovery Cube’s annual Rocket Launch! Located on campus at the Boeing Company in Huntington Beach, this event is full of hands-on activities for all ages and includes a competition where you’ll design, build and launch your own 2-liter bottle rocket with pressurized air and water. Rockets with the longest “hang time” will be awarded prizes. MUST REGISTER

May 13th | BMX Freestyle Team Show 

Robert Castillo’s BMX Freestyle Team features some of today’s best action-sports athletes in a nonstop, action-packed stunt show. These World Class BMX Superstars put on a show that you won’t soon forget. Exciting, Entertaining and Memorable, giving you the “Ultimate BMX Freestyle Stunt Show Experience.”

May 12 & 13th | Harry Potter Film Concert SCFTA

Cars fly, trees fight back, and monsters are on the loose in Harry’s second year at Hogwarts™ School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! This concert features the film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets™ in high-definition, on a giant screen, while the Pacific Symphony performs John Williams’ unforgettable score. Relive every magical moment as the music brings life to a story that has bewitched the world.

May 19th – 21st | OC Greek Festival 

The OC Greek Food Festival celebrates the best of Greek food, music, dancing and culture. Experience authentic Greek foods and homemade Greek pastries; traditional Greek dancing and Greek music; an outdoor marketplace and expansive “Kidz Zone” with carnival rides & games and other children’s activities, and much more.

May 19th | Kids’ Night Out::StarWars 

Kids, this quarterly event is all about you! Stop by and enjoy the evening and a break from your parents. Activities will include Star Wars-themed games, crafts, dinner, popcorn and a movie! Kids can bring a blanket and a pillow to relax on during the movie. parents must register in advance; limited space is available, so register today. Open to ages 4-13 years old.

May 20th | Exploring Bommer Family Hike 

Hey kids, bring your parents out to this fun, guided hike in the wilderness south of Irvine. We’ll search for animal clues left along the trail and discover what it’s like to be a wild animal kid. This is a short, easy hike suitable for the younger members of the family. Parent(s) or guardian must be in attendance. MUST REGISTER

May 20th | Wild Things Interactive Story Time Bowers Museum

 

Wild Things is a children’s theatre troupe that spreads their love of theatre and reading by performing children’s books, encouraging the audience to use their imagination, as they only use their bodies to create the characters and setting of the story.

May 20th | Paw Readathon with Roxy

Read aloud to Roxy, a beautiful and patient therapy dog. Bring your favorite book to read or grab one from the library.

May 21st | Children’s Garden Workshop Orange County Great Park

Learn the lifecycle of a monarch butterfly from eggs to butterflies, observe monarchs in the garden, and discover the threats that monarchs and other beneficial insects are facing today. Do your part by building your own “bug hotel” for beneficial insects. 

Participants may bring their own large containers or naturally found objects to create their project.

May 27th | Above & Beyond – The Ultimate Interactive Flight Exhibition Discovery Cube

This groundbreaking exhibition celebrates the power of innovation to make dreams take flight! The traveling aerospace exhibition, sponsored by Boeing in commemoration of Boeing’s 100th anniversary in 2016, features: immersive simulations, interactive design challenges, iconic historical touchstones, visionary concepts for the future, and inspiring stories from game-changing innovators, past and present. Design – and test-fly – your own supersonic jet. Pilot a drone into the eye of a hurricane to measure nature’s fury.
