August 2019 Orange County eventsHow is it August already? Like seriously, is it just me or has the summer been flying by? There are still so many things on my summer bucket list that we haven’t done yet, so this month will be focused on enjoying the best and the last golden weeks of summer before school begins again in the fall.

 

Here are some of the best events happening this August 2019 in Orange County!

 

OC Fair – Costa Mesa

Now through August 11 (Wednesdays through Sundays)

From their website: “Barns full of animals? Check! Zany and delish food? Check! Concerts under the stars? Check! Midway games and rides? Check! Blue ribbon winners? Check! Acres of shopping? Check! Something called Brew Hee Haw? Come on out and watch your mama pet a llama, soar up high on La Grande Wheel and dare your friends to try the newest bacon-wrapped, deep-fried, sugar-coated concoction. Don’t forget to check out the best in visual art, woodworking, jam-making and more.”

General (13-59) $12 on Weds-Fridays, $14 on Sat-Sunday, Senior (60+) $7, Youth (6-12) $7, Children 5 and younger are free. Fair parking is $10 cash per car. Free offsite parking Saturday and Sunday with shuttle service. 

 

Vans US Open of Surfing – Huntington Beach

August 1 – 4

From the facebook event: “The 2019 Vans US Open of Surfing presented by Swatch returns to the southside of the Huntington Beach Pier to host some of the world’s top action sports talent in surfing, skateboarding and BMX competitions from July 27 through August 4, 2019. One of the largest action sports festivals in the world, the nine-day event also features a full calendar of engaging creative activities for the entire family to enjoy, including customization workshops, on-site surfboard shaping, public skate and BMX sessions, movie premieres, vendor exhibitions, giveaways and art installations.”

Free. Parking in paid public lots or metered street parking. 

 

Mermaids & Pirates Kids Club At Pacific City – Huntington Beach

August 2

From their website: “Visit With The Local Mermaids! Ever wondered what it’s like to meet a mermaid? Now is your chance! Join us on the Ocean Deck from noon – 2pm to meet Huntington Beach’s local mermaids to learn about live under the sea and even take a photo with them! Plus, get your face painted! We’ll have multiple talented artists available for face painting as well.”

Hoag Medical Group Pediatrics Meet + Greet

August 6

Meet the Pediatricians at Hoag and take a tour of the facility. Learn about the practice.  Refreshments and a gift from Hoag Medical Group will be provided!

Movie Mondays at Segerstrom – Costa Mesa

August 6

Segerstrom hosts free Movie Mondays on their Julianne and George Argyros Plaza during the summer. This is a good one for families with slightly older children since the movies are all rated PG or PG-13. The August 2019 series concludes with the film HOOK.

Free Admission.

 

“Family Style” Concert On The Green – Mission Viejo

August 9

From their website: “”Family Style” has been entertaining fans throughout Southern California since 1989. With a dynamic stage show and music from Stevie Wonder, Prince, and James Brown plus a healthy dose of David Bowie, Steve Ray Vaughn and Santana. “Family Style” will get you on your feed for a funky good time. The concert will feature free bounce houses for kids along with gourmet food trucks and beer and wine for purchase. Concert goers can bring low-back chairs and blankets to enjoy the show but should leave their pets at home.”

Free.

 

Back To School Fun At Laguna Niguel Promenade – Laguna Niguel

August 10

From the Facebook event: “Get ready for another fun filled event at Laguna Niguel Promenade! There will be a live reptile show, Sylvan Robotics demo, more amazing prize baskets then ever before, treats for the kids, and more! With special guest attendees including the Mayor, the Orange County Sheriff’s Dept. and Care Ambulance Service. Kids can take selfies with and check out a real squad car and ambulance!”

Free.

 

CHOC Walk In The Park at the Disneyland Resort – Anaheim

August 11

Join the Orange County Moms Blog team this August 2019 in walking this really fun family event for an excellent cause with lots of Disney magic along the route! From their website: “Upon arriving at the Disneyland® Resort, you’re greeted with magic and wonder. As you walk through Disneyland® Park and Disney California Adventure® Park, you’ll be joined by your favorite Disney friends – cheering you on and providing unique photo opportunities. You have the opportunity to see the Parks as you may have never seen them before! At the end of the 5K Walk, the celebration continues in Downtown Disney® District where shops and restaurants have special offers for Walk participants. The CHOC Walk is a time when families express their thanks to the doctors and nurses that cared for their children, and share their memories with other families. It is a fundraiser that provides for the care, services, education and research at CHOC Children’s Hospital.”

Each participant is responsible for raising or donating a minimum of $95 (ages 2 and under are free). Please note that August 2019 late registration now requires each person pay $95 up front. Free parking and event tee shirt plus hotel discounts. Also, there are fabulous prizes for top fundraisers. Additionally, CHOC Walk participants will have an opportunity to purchase specially priced Disneyland® Resort Park Tickets on the day of the CHOC Walk! 

 

Family Film Night At The Bowers Museum (LABYRINTH) – Santa Ana

August 16

You remind me of the babe. From their website: “Enjoy an outdoor screening of LABYRINTH under the stars! Bring a picnic blanket and grab a treat from the snack bar. Family art making will be held nightly before the film. Fifteen-year-old Sarah resents her baby brother Toby and secretly wishes that he will just disappear. Her wish comes true when goblins kidnap the boy. Feeling responsible, she sets forth to retrieve him and finds herself on the adventure of a lifetime.”

Members $10. General $15. Children under age 12 are $5. 

 

D23 Expo (The Ultimate Disney Fan Event) – Anaheim

August 23 – 25

From their facebook event: “Each of Disney’s magical worlds—including Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars—will unite under one roof to celebrate what’s new and what’s on the horizon from Disney theme parks, television, music, products, and films. Highlights planned for D23 Expo include more than 50 shows, presentations, and panels, including the Disney Legends Ceremony, which honors the talented men and women who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy; an all-new exhibit curated by the Walt Disney Archives; a daily parade down the middle of the show floor; D23 Expo’s costume contest, Mousequerade, showcasing the most creative designs by fans; and the D23 Expo Design Challenge.”

Saturday tickets have sold out but Friday and Sunday tickets are still available as of this post’s publication date in August 2019. General admission adult tickets $89 and child tickets start at $69. D23 Gold Members receive $10 off ticket price.  

 

Colin’s Crew & McKenna Claire Foundation Lemonade Stand at Mama’s on 39th – Huntington Beach

August 25

Join Colin’s Crew HB outside Mama’s on 39 restaurant for some delicious organic lemonade, animal crackers, and other little goodies! All proceeds benefit the McKenna Claire Foundation and groundbreaking pediatric brain cancer research. Colin and McKenna are both local children who passed away from DIPG, a rare inoperable brain stem tumor that is currently terminal upon diagnosis. Help us change that! Donations of any amount are appreciated, and bring hope to everyone affected by DIPG and other pediatric brain cancers!

Come out and have a nice brunch by the beach, or just stop by for a cup of lemonade and support a good cause!

 

Orange International Street Fair – Orange

August 30 – September 1

“In 1973, The City of Orange was looking for ideas to celebrate its one hundredth year. Inspired by the Orange Street Fair of 1910 it was decided that for their centennial celebration, Orange would have the Orange International Street Fair (OISF). The Fair was so successful that it has become an annual tradition during Labor Day weekend. The Fair is located near Plaza Park in the historic downtown district.”

Free entry. If you’d like to drink alcohol there, you’ll need to show a valid ID and pay $3 for a wristband. There are several public parking lots in the area. Street parking also available. You may need to walk several blocks to get to the event.

OC Parks Summer Concert Series – August 2019

August 1, and every Thursday until August 29

From their website: “Once again OC Parks brings live music to Orange County’s regional parks. Enjoy 10 concerts at five different parks, Thursday nights from June 20 through Aug. 29.” Each event features free live music and food trucks under the summer sky on Thursday evenings this August 2019. Upcoming performances include White Buffalo featuring Matt Baxter [United] (August 1), Tijuana Dogs And Family Style (August 22), and more. Should be a fun time! 

Admission and parking are free. Open to the public of all ages. Concertgoers 21 and over can purchase beer and wine at the beer tent. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for guests to enjoy the beer garden, food trucks, and to save their spot on the grass for the concert. All concerts are from 6 to 8 p.m.

 

OC Parks Sunset Cinema Series – August 2019

From their website: “Grab a beach chair and some popcorn, because OC Parks is bringing the big screens back to your favorite regional parks again this summer. Enjoy 14 movies at seven different parks, Friday nights from June 14 through Sept. 13.” 

August 2– BACK TO THE FUTURE (PG) at Mason Park

August 9 – MARY POPPINS RETURNS (PG) at Irvine Park

August 16 – THE JUNGLE BOOK (G) at Irvine Park

August 23 – LEGO MOVIE 2 (PG) at Laguna Niguel Park

Free admission. 6-10pm.
