Many families depend on the breakfast and lunches provided by their local schools. However, with school being closed until at least mid-May – and possibly even longer – here in Orange County, it can be a scary reality to face.
Thankfully, many school cafeterias are remaining open to provide free lunches to children and seniors. There are also restaurants that are offering free kids meals with the purchase of an adult entree. Some churches are offering grocery pick-up in their parking lots.
While we don’t know how much longer the shelter in place will last – the one thing we do know is that our Orange County Community is coming together to help everyone – and that is something we want to celebrate!
Below are resources for free meals throughout Orange County:
Grab n Go – This has a list of schools in Orange County as well as the schedule for when they are offering free meals. Some of them are offering breakfast lunch and dinner – so be sure to check out each district as they are all different.
CA Meals For Kids App – While putting this resource together someone came up with an App that will help you find meals in your area and that makes us super happy! The CA Meals for Kids mobile application helps you find nearby California Afterschool and Summer Meal Programs Sites. The Emergency Meal Sites section may be used during unanticipated school closures due to emergency situations.
Recess Room – Fountain Valley – The Recess Room is offering Free lunches to students and seniors on Fridays.
Blind Pig + Khan Saab – Each restaurant is offering free lunches for kids – they do have limited quantities so be sure to call ahead!
Orange County Free Food Map – With may families completely out of work – their needs may be more than just lunch. Thankfully, Orange County has a big list of soup kitchens to help everyone during this uncertain time.
Mama’s on 39 – Huntington Beach/Los Alamitos/Newport Beach – Offers a free kids meal for each entre ordered. They are doing take out and also offer a “convenience store” at the counter with toilet paper, water bottles, and even discounted wine and cocktails to go for purchase. Check their social media for the latest deals during this quarantine.
Woody’s Diner – Huntington Beach/Sunset Beach/Newport Beach/Laguna Hills/Orange – Offering Take-Out Specials that include a free kids meal per adult entree.
