Get Your Ears On! 2019 Mickey And Minnie Celebration At The Disneyland Resort

Mickey and Minnie CelebrationHey Disney fans! 2019 marks the 90th birthday of Mickey Mouse and his forever gal pal Minnie Mouse. The Disneyland Resort is celebrating this sweet couple by throwing them a giant months-long party! It’s called Get Your Ears On – A Mickey And Minnie Celebration, and is going on right now at both Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park, and other locations at the Disneyland Resort including The Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.

I was at the parks over the weekend when Get Your Ears On debuted, and was able to check out the decorations, themed food offerings, and festivities. Here’s a peek into all the fun:

The Decorations

Mickey and Minnie Celebration

As you enter the parks, you immediately notice Mickey and Minnie’s classic colors are everywhere. Banners in red, yellow, black and white, and featuring Minnie’s signature polka dot pattern, abound.

Walk down Main Street, USA, and you’ll see that every lamppost pole is draped in colorful banners and features an image of either Mickey or Minnie at the top!

How cute is she??

The whole park just feels even more cheerful than it usually does with all these Mickey and Minnie Celebration decorations around.

Even the Disneyland Monorail got into the birthday spirit!

The Food

In honor of Mickey and Minnie, the talented chefs at the Disneyland Resort have dreamed up a huge assortment of items ranging from Mickey-shaped hot dishes to speciality desserts and lots of fun stuff in between! You can check out the full foodie guide from the Disney Parks Blog featuring a menu of items available throughout the happiest place on earth.

Though I would’ve loved to sample them all, I was only able to try a few on this visit. But thankfully these limited time items will be around for at least a few more months (an exact end date hasn’t been announced yet). So I definitely plan to work my way through them this spring!

Here are a few of the items I was able to taste:

Mickey and Minnie Celebration
Mickey Mouse Celebration Churro – a chocolate churro topped with cookie butter and Mickey confetti. SOOOOOO yummy!

FYI this is only available at the churro cart by it’s a small world.

It came with this side of red marshmallow crème and 2 edible Mickey buttons. I enjoyed this dip far more than I thought I would because it was not overly sweet. It gently enhanced the flavor of an already delicious churro.

Over at Rancho Del Zocalo in Frontierland, they’re serving a Sopes Trio shaped like a Hidden Mickey. It comes with chicken, beef, and pork on fried corn dough, and is piled high with refried beans, shredded lettuce, salsa roja, and a really delicious spicy lime aioli.

These sopes were overflowing with deliciousness, but if you look closely you’ll see that familiar outline of Mickey’s head underneath all the toppings.

To wash this down, I ordered the Frozen Strawberry Horchata. We love horchata in our family, but I’ve never seen it in strawberry flavor! This one was topped with whipped cream, a dehydrated strawberry, and cinnamon. I got maybe one sip in before it was commandeered by my children who guzzled the rest down.

When we go back for another visit, I’d love to try the “Share Your Ears” Cheeseburger over at Disney California Adventure park. It’s served at Smokejumper’s Grill and includes one regular cheeseburger topped with two slider burger “ears” – one for each of my kids!

The Festivities

Mickey and Minnie Celebration

As part of the Mickey and Minnie Celebration, the popular Mickey’s Soundsational Parade has returned to Disneyland! To honor the big cheese’s 90th birthday, the parade opens with a giant celebration cake featuring Mickey Mouse, Chip ‘n’ Dale.

Nighttime brings an all-new fireworks and laser light show at Disneyland. DJ Mickey spins tunes in this high energy show, dubbed Mickey’s Mix Magic. Our friends caught this show with their kids last weekend and said it was super fun!

Valentine’s Day

To celebrate these two sweethearts, from now until February 18th the Disneyland Resort will be celebrating Valentine’s Month in a couple sweet ways. Just inside the Disneyland park entrance, the flower bed in front of the Disneyland Railroad features a Mickey Mouse portrait made entirely from real blooms. There’s a “sweethearts” photo opp on Main Street, USA.

You can also buy Minnie’s Valentine’s Day Surprise Scavenger Hunt Experience, which includes a commemorative game board and stickers. Once you’ve completed your game board by searching for clues in the park, you can redeem it for a prize (I hear it’s a set of cute Valentine’s Day cards featuring Disney characters).

Mickey and Minnie have brought me, and millions of other fans across the world, so much joy in the past 90 years. It’s only fitting that they be celebrated in such a massive and fun way at the happiest place on earth!

You can check out the Disneyland website for more details on Get Your Ears On – A Mickey And Minnie Celebration. And be sure to let us know in the comments if you’ve experienced it and what your favorite part is!
