Pie is always a loved tradition during the holidays. With so many traditional and unique options there is usually something for everyone around the dessert table.
I enjoy baking, but pie is one thing that I have no desire to learn how to do. I don’t have the time and patience for trial and error and the idea of it gives me anxiety. With so many great local bakeries, I’m a store-bought pie kind of girl. I love a fresh bakery pie and put this list together of some of the best places to buy pies in our area.
Best Pies In Orange County For The Holidays:
Marie Callender’s
The traditional longstanding queen of pies. Marie’s is always a go-to for pies year-round. Marie was an accomplished baker who launched her eponymous pie business in the early 40’s. Her and her husband were delivering her home-baked pies to restaurants across the county. In 1964 the first pie and coffee shop was opened by Marie’s son in Orange, CA. To date they have 28 restaurants across the United States and continue to be a leader in the to-go pie industry. With a wide variety of cream, fruit, and holiday pies there is something for everyone. My favorite is banana cream!
Polly’s Pies
Another local Orange County chain, Polly’s opened its first location in Fullerton in 1968 and continues to serve OC with an assortment of fresh and bake-at-home pies. My favorite is the apple crisp pie with cinnamon crumble on top!
Rockwell’s
Tucked in the corner of the Villa Park town center, Rockwell’s bakery and café is my go-to for cakes, cookies, pies, and all things desserts. Perhaps a biased favorite because I used to be able to walk there. I have many memories of Sunday brunch and always taking home a box of sweets. Supporting a small local business is always great thing to do, especially around the holidays. Their pumpkin pie is my favorite!
The Pie Hole
A trendy LA sweet and savory pie shop charms old town Orange with an assortment of pies served by the slice, individual savory pies, and whole pies to order. With unique sweet and savory and traditional flavors you can have pie for dinner and dessert. Popular pies include the Mac & Cheese Pot Pie on the savory side and the Earl Grey Tea pie for a sweet fix.
Sensitive Sweets
With a rise in dietary restrictions, I wanted to include this Fountain Valley bakery that offers an assortment of fruit pies in Vegan and Gluten-Free options. A local baker and mom, Melanie opened her bakery after perfecting countless recipes to help meet her son’s food allergies. With various dessert options, mixes, and holiday pies, Sensitive Sweets is a great option for those looking for traditional desserts without the traditional ingredients.
Costco
Even though Costco is a large chain, it’s hard not to include them in this list of the best pies in Orange County during the holidays. With such large quantities at a cheap price point ($5.99), their ginormous pumpkin pie has typically been an office and party staple for years.
Corky’s Kitchen and Bakery
Named after Grandma Corky, this family-owned restaurant and bakery has one Orange County location in Ladera Ranch. Corky’s offers a great selection of large and personal pies. With tasty flavors like chocolate cream and snicker bar pie, Corky’s is a great option for those looking for small and large pie selections.
A Little Something Sweet
With full-sized pies and holiday mini’s, this local bakery gets a win for cute and creative flavors. Their Cabble Crumble (cherry apple mixed berry with brown sugar crumb) is a sweet and tangy crowd pleaser for those looking to try something new. Located in Lake Forest, all holiday pre-orders are done online for safety and to help streamline the ordering and pickup process.
