9 Unique Things to do in october in orange county

As the leaves change colors and cooler temperatures set in, October brings a sense of excitement and fun. Pull out your cozy sweaters and jackets, and indulge in the warm hues of autumn. Don’t forget to breathe in the sweet aroma of pumpkin spice drifting through the air. October in Orange County has so much to offer.

As a matter of fact it can get a bit overwhelming with the amount of activities that are scheduled. Key in October is to stay organized and mark everything in your family calendar.

Here are 9 things I love to do with my kids and family in Orange County during autumn:

Pumpkin Patch Hopping

Make a list of the pumpkin patches around your area you would like to attend using OC Mom Collective’s handy list, since they are SO many nearby. Take advantage of the fall ambiance and capture some family portraits amidst the pumpkin patch.

Whether it’s a family outing or a play date with friends, there’s nothing more enjoyable than taking in the colorful orange hues of the pumpkins. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to bask in the fun fall decorations!

My personal local Pumpkin Patch favorites are Laguna Hills (near the Laguna Hills Mall), Tanaka Farms in Irvine, and Heritage Hill Historical Park in Lake Forest to name a few.

Costume Party Planning

Get a jump start on your Halloween costume or plan a costume party with friends. It’s never too early (or late) for spooky fun! I can’t stress this enough to get the costumes in advance, especially in Costco, the good costumes run out quick. Also, if you have family and friends with similar ages, exchange and borrow costumes, this is great way to reduce costs of the costumes yearly.

Fall Hike

Take a hike or nature walk to enjoy the beautiful autumn colors. It’s a great way to soak in the season. With the summer heatwave slowly disappearing, this is the best time to go for family hikes.

Movie Night with Halloween Classics

Watch some classic Halloween movies with friends or family. It’s the perfect time for a cozy movie night. My personal favorite: HOCUS POCUS.

Bake Fall Treats

Experiment with fall-themed recipes. Pumpkin pie, apple cider donuts, or cinnamon-spiced cookies are sure to bring warmth to your kitchen. In addition to sweet options, remember to explore the realm of savory recipes, like trying out a new butternut squash soup.

Haunted House Visit

Check out a local haunted house or haunted trail for a thrilling experience. Before you go, brace yourself for some spooky thrills and consider the age-appropriateness for younger children.

Attend a Fall Festival

Many places host fall festivals with activities like apple picking, hayrides, and live music. Discover local events and make the most of your free time by planning a date night, family outing, or girls’ night out.

Outdoor Bonfire

Spend time with loved ones this autumn and share spooky stories around a warm bonfire. Enjoy the crisp fall air while roasting marshmallows and sipping hot cocoa.

Decorate your house

Get creative and decorate your house with Halloween decorations. It’s a fun way to add a personal touch to your space and some communities are hosting haunted house decorating contest.
